Ellie Kane wants to “put things right” when Accies travel to Partick Thistle on Wednesday evening as they look to bounce back from defeat against Glasgow Girls.

The midfielder was delighted to get off the mark on her first start of the season, but admitted the goal meant very little as her side were on the end of a defeat.

Kane said: “I was pleased to get on the scoresheet, especially an equaliser before half time. I think the team needed it to just settle ourselves a little bit. It was a deserved goal and it got us back in the game. When you end up losing the game your goal isn’t really something you take away from the match. I’m hoping to try and get more minutes in a very competitive side, and of course that comes with scoring goals and assisting because the league we are in is so competitive.”

Ellie netted just before the break, giving the home side a lifeline following a poor first-half display and Kane believes her side have got the “wakeup call” they needed in what could be a pivotal month for the SWPL 2 title race.

Kane said:  “It was a poor performance, but I also feel for a large part of the second half that Glasgow Girls never really looked like scoring and we were on the front foot, however, you have to take your chances. We haven’t played anywhere near our best yet this season and although we have up until this weekend managed to get results, maybe the result today was the wakeup call that we needed. I think we are still just looking to click as a team, but we need to bounce back from this very quickly as we have a very important month.

Thistle won their first game of the season against Queen’s Park in comprehensive 3-0 win, followed that with a draw against Dundee United before falling to defeat against St Johnstone on Sunday.

She said: “We know that Partick Thistle is going to be another very tough game on Wednesday as you aren’t going to get an easy game in this league. They have some great players with a lot of experience therefore we need to just dust ourselves down and keep all eyes on this game. We will be looking to put things right.”
